Pritchett, William Kendrick

(1909– ) classicist; born in Atlanta, Ga. He was educated at Johns Hopkins (Ph.D. 1942) and taught at the University of California: Berkeley (1948–76). He was an expert on Greek epigraphy (the study of inscriptions), warfare, and topography, and his publications include Studies in Greek Topography I–IV (1965, 1969, 1980, 1982), The Greek State at War I–III (1974; 1979) and Ancient Greek Military Practices (1971).
