the testing and mastering under service conditions of technical items (instruments, machines, devices, equipment, and the like), together with maintenance and technical documentation of the items. The objective of service testing is to acquire operating skills, to work out methods of organizing and performing maintenance, to reveal the existence and nature of possible damage and failures, and to test in practice measures designed to prevent failures. In order to solve such problems, additional observations (besides those prescribed in the basic technical documentation) are made of the operation of equipment, sometimes with the aid of special monitoring devices.
