Snow Survey

measurement of the depth and density of the snow cover along a defined course in order to study the distribution of the snow cover over a given territory and to determine the reserves of water contained. Such surveys are conducted regularly by hydrometeorological stations using portable snow gages that measure depth and density. Methods of remote measurement using radioactive snow gages, passive radar, and similar devices are under development.
