Sesil Takaishvili
Takaishvili, Sesil’ Dmitrievna
Born Sept. 30 (Oct. 13), 1906, in Batumi. Soviet Georgian actress. People’s Artist of the USSR (1966).
After graduating from A. N. Pagava’s drama studio in 1926, Takaishvili performed at the Georgian-language Rustaveli Theater. Between 1930 and 1967 she performed at the Georgian-language Mardzhanishvili Theater in Tbilisi. Her roles have included Anka in Pogodin’s Poem of the Ax, Katharine in Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, Ogudalova in Ostrov-skii’s The Girl Without a Dowry, Elizabeth in Schiller’s MariaStuart, and Grandmother in Dumbadze and Lordkipanidze’s Grandmother, Iliko, Marion and 1. Takaishvili has also appeared in motion pictures and variety shows. Her acting is marked by poignancy, originality, humor, and vividness. Takaishvili has been awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and several medals.
