Sespel’, Mishshi

 

(Mikhail Kuz’mich Kuz’min). Born Nov. 4 (16), 1899, in the village of Kazakkasy, now the village of Sespel’, Kanash Raion, Chuvash ASSR; died June 15, 1922, in the village of Starogorodka, Chernigov Oblast. Soviet Chuvash poet. Member of the CPSU from 1918.

Sespel’ helped organize the Chuvash Komsomol. In 1920 and 1921 he served as the first chairman of the revolutionary tribunal of the Chuvash Autonomous Oblast. Sespel’ began publishing in 1917. In his poetry, he urged the people to wage a struggle against the old world; he glorified the working man and the joy of creating a new life. He introduced syllabotonic versification into Chuvash poetry.
