runway temperature

runway temperature

[′rən‚wā ‚tem·prə·chər] (meteorology) The temperature of the air just above the runway at an airport (usually at about 4 feet or 1.2 meters but ideally at engine or wing height), used in the determination of density altitude; therefore, runway temperature observations are made and reported at airports when critical values of density altitude prevail.
