Veterinary Code of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics

the governmental act now in force in the USSR that sets the objectives for Soviet veterinary institutions, outlines the principles involved in organizing veterinary measures, and defines the duties of kolkhoz chairmen, sovkhoz directors, veterinarians and their assistants, and other officials and citizens with respect to the prevention of cattle and poultry diseases and the protection of the population against diseases common to animals and man. The Veterinary Code specifies the steps to be taken to prevent the importation of infectious animal diseases into the USSR from abroad. The Veterinary Code of the RSFSR, the first in the USSR, came into force Dec. 1, 1923. The code now in force (1970), which was approved Dec. 22, 1967, is obligatory for all ministries, departments, kolkhozes, sovkhozes, and other farms and enterprises. The agencies and officials of the state veterinary service are responsible for the enforcement of the Veterinary Code.
