Veterinary Laboratory

 

an institution in which research on various objects (blood, cadavers, organs) of veterinary medicine is conducted, along with study of their properties, composition, structure, and of the chemical and biological processes occurring in them. In the system of the state veterinary network of the USSR, veterinary laboratories are subdivided into oblast (krai and republic), interraion, and raion laboratories.

The principal tasks of the veterinary laboratories include elaboration and organization of veterinary measures assigned by veterinary agencies and the conducting of diagnostic research and investigation of fodder, meat, milk, and other animal products. Veterinary laboratories conduct bacteriological, biological, serological, toxicological, pathological-anatomical, histological, and other investigations of materials and also allergic and other investigations of animals directly on farms. In oblast (krai and republic) veterinary laboratories there are departments of bacteriology, serology, parasitology, chemical toxicology, clinical diagnosis, nutrition, pathology and anatomy, radiology, and fodder research. Some veterinary laboratories, in addition, have a produce division and groups of epizootiological specialists. Veterinary laboratories are built according to standard designs.
