Talmenka

an urban-type settlement and administrative center of Tal’menka Raion, Altai Krai, RSFSR. Situated on the right bank of the Chumysh River, a tributary of the Ob’. Rail road station (Ust’-Tal’menskaia) on the Novosibirsk-Barnaul line, 70 km north of Barnaul. Population, 22,000 (1975). Tal’ menka has a lumber industry. It also has plants for the manufacture of tractor assemblies, reinforced-concrete products, and metal structural components, as well as a winery and a creamery. Educational institutions include an agricultural technicum and a medical school.
