Talvir, Aleksei Filippovich
Born Mar. 8 (21), 1909, in the village of Bol’shoe Batyrevo, now in Chuvash ASSR. Soviet Chuvash writer. Member of the CPSU since 1941.
Talvir studied at Moscow State University from 1929 to 1933. He fought in the Great Patriotic War (1941–45). Talvir began publishing in 1927. His main themes, the industrialization of Chuvashia and the spiritual growth of the working people, are illustrated in the books of short stories The Enthusiasts (1948) and My Factory (1950), the novel People From Batyr-Ial (Russian translation, 1933), the novella You Will Be an Engineer (1952), and the novel The Foundation (1965; Russian translation, 1972). The novella On the Buinsk Route (1954) deals with life in a pre-revolutionary Chuvash village. Talvir’s works have been translated into several national languages of the USSR.
From 1954 to 1958, Talvir was chairman of the administrative board of the Writers’ Union of the Chuvash ASSR. He has been awarded the Order of the Red Star and several medals.
