Bendix, Reinhard

Bendix, Reinhard

(1916–91) sociologist; born in Berlin, Germany. A 1938 emigrant to the U.S.A., he was educated at the University of Chicago and spent most of his academic career at the University of California: Berkeley; from 1947–61, he was with the sociology department, from 1962–91, with the political science department. He wrote many books on the sociology of industrial society, political sociology, and the German sociologist Max Weber, who was an important influence on his own work.
