Tigil
Tigil’
(in its upper course, Bol’shoi Tigil’), a river in Kamchatka Oblast, RSFSR. The Tigil’ measures 300 km in length and drains an area of 17,800 sq km. It originates in the Sredinnyi Range and flows into Tigil’ Bay of Shelekhov Gulf, on the Sea of Okhotsk. It is fed primarily by subterranean sources. The mean flow rate 50 km from the mouth is approximately 200 cu m per sec. The Tigil’ freezes between late October and November, and the ice breaks up in May. The river is a spawning place for salmon.
