Tignis
Tignis
a monument of medieval Armenian architecture. The remains of the castle of Tignis, once part of the area defended by the fortress of Ani, are situated on the right bank of the Akhurian (Arpachai) River, now part of Turkey, in Kars Vilayet. The castle, which was erected during the ninth and tenth centuries and is now only partially preserved, was surrounded by a line of low fortified walls and had a central tower with semicircular machicolated projections. State, residential, and working quarters were arranged on several stories around a rectangular interior courtyard.
