Tigran Sergeevich Khachaturov
Khachaturov, Tigran Sergeevich
Born Sept. 23 (Oct. 6), 1906, in Moscow. Soviet economist. Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (AN SSSR) (1966; corresponding member, 1943). Member of the CPSU from 1945.
Khachaturov graduated from the University of Moscow in 1926. From 1945 to 1949 he served as director of the All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Railroad Transport, and from 1954 to 1959 as director of the Institute for Problems of Integrated Transport Systems attached to the AN SSSR. In 1966 he was appointed editor in chief of the journal Problemy ekonomiki (Problems of Economics). He was academician-secretary of the division of economics of the AN SSSR from 1967 to 1971. In 1971 he became a professor at Moscow State University and was named deputy chairman of the commission for the study of productive forces and natural resources under the Presidium of the AN SSSR.
Khachaturov’s principal works deal with the theory of socialist reproduction, the economic effectiveness of capital investments, the economics of transportation and capital construction, the allocation of productive forces, and contemporary economics in the USSR.
Khachaturov is an honorary member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (1970) and an honorary doctor of the O. Lange Academy of Economics of the Polish People’s Republic (1977). He has been awarded the Order of the October Revolution, five other orders, and various medals.
