an urban-type settlement and administrative center of Peno Raion, Kalinin Oblast, RSFSR. A landing on the upper Volga River, on Lake Peno, the settlement has a railroad station on the Bologoe-Velikie Luki line. It has a wood-products combine, a logging and timber distribution establishment, and other enterprises connected with the lumber industry. Peno is the site of the former home of L. Chaikina, which has been turned into a museum.

a lake in Kalinin Oblast, RSFSR. One of the lakes in the upper Volga River system, it has an area of 16.7 sq km and extends from north to south. The lake is 9 km long and approximately 2 km wide, with an average depth of 3.5 m. It is fed primarily by snow. Lake Peno freezes in November and thaws in April or early May. Its gently sloping shores are covered with forest. The lake is joined by a channel with Lake Vselug.
