vitreous haemorrhage

vitreous haemorrhage

Bleeding into the VITREOUS HUMOUR of the eye. This occurs most commonly from RETINOPATHY caused by DIABETES. Vision may be severely affected and bleeding tends to recur. Vitreous haemorrhage may lead to extension of blood vessels and fibrous tissue from the RETINA into the vitreous (proliferative retinopathy) and subsequent detachment of the retina. Treatment of diabetic retinopathy can prevent vitreous haemorrhage.
