Sunzha Range
Sunzha Range
a mountain range of Ciscaucasia, situated between the left bank of the Sunzha River, a tributary of the Terek River, to the south, and the Alkhanchurt Valley, to the north. The range is composed of Neogene slate clays and sand rocks. The maximum elevation is 926 m, at Mount Zamankul. The elevation decreases from west to east, as the mountains change to hills. Steppe vegetation predominates on the slopes, while the elevated western parts have pasture meadows, with tracts of broad-leaved forests of oak and hornbeam still preserved in the valleys.
