Marabini, Anselmo

 

Born Oct. 16, J865, in Imola; died there Oct. 9, 1948. Leader in the Italian labor movement. An agronomist by education.

Marabini joined the Italian Section of the First International in 1887. In 1892 he was among the founders of the Italian Socialist Party (ISP), and in 1893 he became secretary of its federation in Romagna. From 1906 to 1919 he was a member of the governing body of the ISP. In 1919 he was in parliament as an ISP representative and in 1921 as a representative of the Communist Party. As part of the Communist faction of the ISP, he participated in the founding of the Italian Communist Party in 1921. In 1921 and 1922 he was elected to the Central Committee of the party. He was a delegate at the Fourth Congress of the Comintern in 1922. In 1923, after the seizure of power by the Fascists, he was forced to emigrate. He lived in the USSR and worked in the leadership bodies of the International Association for Aid to Revolutionaries. In 1945 he returned to his homeland.
