释义 | Stanislaw I LeszczynskiStan·is·l̷aw I Lesz·czyń·skiS0705300 (stăn′ĭ-slôs lĕsh-chĭn′skē) 1677-1766.Stanislaw I LeszczynskiStanisław I LeszczyńskiBorn Oct. 20, 1677, in L’vov; died Feb. 23, 1766, in Lunéville, France. Polish king from 1704 to 1711 and 1733 to 1734. A Polish nobleman and governor of Poznań, Stanisław Leszczyński was elected king under Swedish pressure after Charles XII’s invasion of Poland in 1702. However, he was not recognized by the majority of the szlachta (nobility). Charles XII’s defeat at Poltava in 1709 deprived Stanisław of Swedish military support, and he fled to Prussia, subsequently emigrating to France. In 1725 he gave his daughter in marriage to Louis XV. He was restored to the Polish throne by French diplomacy in 1733, but in the course of the War of the Polish Succession he was driven from the country. By the Treaty of Vienna of 1738 he renounced his claim to the Polish throne, receiving Lorraine as a hereditary possession. |
