Russian AlmondRussian Almond(in Russian also low almond, steppe almond; Amygdalus nana), a shrub of the rose family. The leaves are simple and linear-lanceolate and are arranged in clumps on shortened twigs. The flowers are large and bright pink; they bloom in early spring, simultaneously with the unfolding of the leaves. The fruit is a velvety-mossy drupe with a compressed stone. The Russian almond is distributed in Europe and Asia; in the USSR it grows in the forest-steppe and steppe zones of the European part and in Western Siberia, as well as in Kazakhstan (Mugodzhary Range).
