Tikhoretsk

a city (since 1926) under krai jurisdiction and administrative center of Tikhoretsk Raion, Krasnodar Krai, RSFSR. Important railroad junction at the intersection of the Rostov-on-Don-Baku and Volgograd-Novorossiisk lines. Located 136 km northeast of Krasnodar. Population, 62,000 (1975; 37,000 in 1939). Tikhoretsk has machine-building and metal-working enterprises producing equipment for the transportation, chemical, and trade industries, It also has a poultry-packing combine, a cheese combine, and a cannery. The city has a railroad transportation technicum.
