Tiksi

an urban-type settlement and administrative center of the Bulun Raion, Yakut ASSR. Tiksi, a seaport near the mouth of the Lena River, is situated on Tiksi Bight of the Laptev Sea. It is a port for the transshipment of goods from river vessels to oceangoing vessels and vice versa. The settlement was founded between 1932 and 1934 as a result of the establishment of the Northern Sea Route. A polar station has been under operation near Tiksi since 1932.
