Russian White Chickens

a breed of chickens raised for egg production. It was developed in the USSR by crossbreeding Leghorns with local fowl of the central regions of the RSFSR. Selection was conducted within the best flocks; there was also mass crossbreeding of farm populations raised under various climatic conditions. The breed was registered in 1953. The plumage is white; the legs are yellow. Cocks weigh 2.8–3 kg, and hens 2.1–2.2 kg. The egg yield is 180–190 eggs yearly per chicken; on the best farms it may reach 215–225. The egg weighs 58–60 g. The breed acclimatizes well and is adapted to barnyard or cage maintenance. Pedigree work is being conducted to develop specialized inbred lines of the Russian White to obtain a hybrid bird.
