Russkie Mountains

mountains in Queen Maud Land in Antarctica, between 71 °–72°30′ S lat and 16°–19° E long. More than 12 peaks—including Zhelanie, Karpinskii, Rusanov, and Iakovlev—and nunataks rise to elevations of 2,500 m. The mountains are composed primarily of gneisses. The summits are free from ice and snow. The Russkie Mountains were discovered in February 1959 by the fourth Soviet antarctic expedition.
