Uriadnik

in prerevolutionary Russia:

(1) A low rank in the district police. The position was established in 1878. The uriadnik was subordinate to the stanovoi pristav, the police chief in a given stan, or territorial police unit. From 1878 it was the duty of the uriadnik to supervise the sotskie and desiatskie, the lowest-ranking rural police, who were elected at village assemblies.

(2) A noncommissioned officer in a cossack host. The ranks of both junior and senior uriadnik existed.
