Vasilii Borisenko
Borisenko, Vasilii Vasil’evich
Born Apr. 12 (25), 1904, in Novoborisov, Minsk Province. Soviet literary critic; doctor of philological sciences (1956); member of the Academy of Sciences of the Byelorussian SSR (AN BSSR) since 1969 (corresponding member in 1957). Member of the CPSU since 1928. Participant in the Great Patriotic War.
In 1937, Borisenko became director of the Institute of Literature of the AN BSSR. He began publishing in 1934. His chief scholarly interest is the history of Byelorussian pre-October literature and Soviet literature. He has written works on la. Kupala, la. Kolas, Z. Biadulia, and others and textbooks on Byelorussian literature for secondary schools and colleges. He edited the History of Byelorussian Soviet Literature (vols. 1–2, 1965–66). He has been awarded four orders, as well as medals.
