Rutkevich, Mikhail Nikolaevich

Born Oct. 2, 1917, in Kiev. Soviet philosopher. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1970). Member of the CPSU since 1944.

Rutkevich graduated from the department of physics at the University of Kiev in 1939. He began teaching philosophy in 1947. From 1953 to 1966 he was head of the subdepartment of philosophy at Urals University in Sverdlovsk and from 1966 to 1972 served as dean of the university’s department of philosophy. From 1972 to 1976 he was director of the Institute of Sociological Research of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. His works concentrate on dialectical materialism, historical materialism, and sociological research. Rutkevich has been awarded the Order of the Red Star and a number of medals.
