Vasilii Evstratov

Evstratov, Vasilii Fedorovich

 

Born Jan. 30 (Feb. 12), 1908, in the village of Dubrovka, in present-day Zhizdra Raion, Kaluga Oblast. Soviet organic chemist, corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1970).

Evstratov graduated from Leningrad University in 1930. He became deputy director of the Tire Industry Institute in 1941 and a professor at the Moscow Institute of Fine Chemical Engineering in 1966. His principal work was on the relationship between the structure and properties of synthetic rubbers and the performance characteristics of their vulcanizates. He was awarded the State Prize of the USSR in 1951. In 1967 he won the Lenin Prize for developing a Soviet synthetic-rubber radial tire for trucks and the associated manufacturing technology. Evstratov was awarded the Order of Lenin, three other orders, and various medals.
