Vasilii iurevich Kosoi
Vasilii iur’evich Kosoi
(Vasilii Iur’evich the Squint-eyed). Year of birth unknown; died in 1448. Appanage prince of Zvenigorod.
Vasilii Iur’evich participated actively in the feudal war against Grand Prince Vasilii II that had been begun by his father, Iurii Dmitrievich. After the death in 1434 of his father, who had by this time occupied Moscow, Vasilii Iur’evich declared himself grand prince of Moscow. However, he was soon forced to flee to Novgorod. After his defeat in the battle on the Kotorosli River in 1435, he was reconciled with the grand prince, receiving Dmitrov as his appanage. In a month, however, he broke the peace and renewed military operations. In the battle of Skoriatin (near Rostov) in 1436, he fell captive and was blinded by order of Vasilii II.
