Vasilii Ivanovich Vinogradov

Born Jan. 29 (Feb. 10), 1895, in Rybinsk; died May 16, 1967, in Moscow. Colonel-general (1944). Joined the CPSU in 1932.

Vinogradov took part in World War I as a junior captain. He began service in the Soviet Army in November 1918. In 1939 he became commander of rifle and mechanized corps and took part in the Soviet-Finnish War of 1939-40. During the Great Patriotic War he commanded a mechanized corps (July-August 1941) and then was deputy commander of the Thirtieth Army and of the logistics of the Kalinin Front (August 1941 to March 1942). Beginning in March 1942 he headed the logistics staff of the Red Army, and during the Soviet-Japanese war of 1945 he was deputy commander in chief of the Far Eastern troops. After the war, he headed the logistics staff of the armed forces and the Directorate of the Logistics Service of the Ministry of Defense. Beginning in 1951 he was deputy minister of war in charge of logistics and chief of logistics of the Ministry of Defense, and in 1958 he became chief quartermaster and deputy chief of logistics of the Ministry of Defense. In 1960 he retired because of illness. He was awarded three Orders of Lenin, three Orders of the Red Banner, Orders of Suvorov First and Second Class, the Order of the Red Star, and medals, as well as five foreign orders.
