Viking Festival

Viking Festival

Mid-JuneThe annual Viking festival has been held since 2000 in the town of Hafnarfjordur, Iceland. During the festival, held near the summer solstice in mid-June, Viking-culture enthusiasts from around the world display reconstructions of Viking garb, handicraft, and traditions, ranging from weddings to sword and archery fights. The festival typically draws about 150 "Vikings" from Iceland and many foreign countries. They include hand-picked woodcarvers, stone carvers, other craftsmen, storytellers, and show fighters. In addition to Viking displays, the festival offers its thousands of spectators and visitors a market; live music, dance, and drama; guided walks; and art exhibitions.
