Starobeshevo State Regional Electric Powerplant
(full name, V. I. Lenin Starobeshevo State Regional Electric Power Plant), a steam electric power plant near the settlement of Novyi Svet, Starobeshevo Raion, Donetsk Oblast, Ukrainian SSR. The plant has an installed capacity of 2,300 megawatts (MW), with three 100-MW and ten 200-MW turbine-generator units. Coal from Donets Coal Basin is used as fuel, and water is supplied by a system that combines a reservoir with cooling towers. Construction on the plant was begun in 1954, and the first unit went into operation in 1958; full capacity was achieved in 1967. The electric power is transmitted by high-voltage transmission lines operating at voltages of 110 and 220 kilovolts. The plant forms part of the power system of the Donets Coal Basin and through this system is linked to the Integrated Power Grid of the USSR.
