Gaidukevich, Viktor Frantsevich

 

Born Nov. 12 (25), 1904, in St. Petersburg; died Oct. 9, 1966, in Kerch’. Soviet archaeologist, specialist in the classical archaeology of the Northern Black Sea Region; doctor of historical sciences (1950).

Gaidukevich became a professor at Leningrad State University in 1953. He took part in excavations at Phanagoria, Tiritaca, Myrmekion, Iluratum, Cytaca, and Chersonesus; in 1934 he became head of the Bosporan expedition. His major works were devoted to the economic history of the Bosporan state.
