Viktor Ilich Alekseev

Alekseev, Viktor Il’ich

 

Born Aug. 27, 1914. Soviet track and field athlete. Honored Master of Sports of the USSR (1942), Honored Trainer of the USSR (1956). Graduated from the Higher Coaches’ School at the Lesgaft Institute (1937). Champion of the USSR (1936, 1939, 1940, 1945, 1948) in javelin throwing.

in 1936, Alekseev organized a children’s athletic school at the Zenit Voluntary Athletic Society and became the school’s permanent director. His students include the world record holders and Olympic champions N. Smirnitskaia, G. Zybina, T. Tyshkevich, V. Trusenev, and T. and I. Press. Alekseev was awarded the Order of Lenin, the Badge of Honor, and medals.
