Viktorov, Georgii Aleksandrovich

 

Born Aug. 6, 1925, in Egor’evsk, Moscow Oblast; died Aug. 29, 1974, in Moscow. Soviet entomologist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1972).

Viktorov graduated from Moscow State University in 1951 and worked in the university’s Zoological Museum from 1951 to 1956. From 1956 he worked at the A. N. Severtsov Institute of Evolutionary Animal Morphology and Ecology of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, where he served as laboratory head from 1966 to 1974. He became a professor at Moscow State University in 1966.

Viktorov’s main works are devoted to ecology, the population dynamics and classification of insects, and the biological methods of combatting pests.
