Wanghia Treaty of 1844
Wanghia Treaty of 1844
the first unfair treaty imposed by the USA on China.
It was signed on July 3 in the village of Wanghia, near Aomen (Macao). Its terms provided the USA not only with the same privileges in China that England had received through the Nanking Treaty of 1842 but also with a number of others, such as cabotage on favorable terms and an expanded right to extraterritoriality.
