Pereiaslav Agreements of 1630
Pereiaslav Agreements of 1630
an agreement reached by the elders of the Ukrainian cossacks and the Polish hetman S. Koniecpolski on May 29 (June 8) near Pereiaslavl’ (present-day Pereiaslav-Khmel’nitskii). The agreement, concluded after an uprising of cossacks and peasants in April and May 1630, increased the number of cossacks in the cossack registry from 6,000 to 8,000; some prosperous cossacks were included for the first time. It granted the cossacks the right to elect their own hetman and stipulated that the insurgents not listed in the cossack registry were to disband and return to their homes.
