Starokadomskii Island

 

an island in the northwestern part of the Laptev Sea. Area, approximately 110 sq km. The island consists of two parts joined by a narrow isthmus. The southern part is hilly, with elevations to 35–40 m, and the northern part is low-lying. The shores are strongly indented. The vegetative cover consists of grasses, mosses, and lichens. The island was discovered in 1913 during a hydrographic expedition on the ships Taimyr and Vaigach and was named after the expedition’s physician, L. M. Starokadomskii.
