If someone has stars in their eyes, they are very hopeful and excited about things which they expect to happen to them in the future. With stars in my eyes, I set about becoming a guitarist, singer and songwriter. Note: You often use this expression to suggest that the person is too hopeful and that the things that they expect to happen probably will not. See also: eye, star
