Apsheron Strata

Apsheron Strata

a layer of strata of the Eopleistocene period, lying concordantly on the Akchagyl strata and discordantly overlain by the Baku strata. The Apsheron strata were distinguished by the Russian geologists N. N. Barbot de Marni and Simanovich in 1891. A typical cross section is composed of sands, clays, marls, and limestones, with peleeypods (mainly Cardiidae) and gastropods. The strata are found in the basin of the Caspian Sea.
