Rychkov, Nikolai Petrovich

 

Born 1746; died 1784. Russian traveler. Son of P. I. Rychkov.

Rychkov served in the military from 1760 to 1767. In 1768 he took part in an expedition led by P. S. Pallas and sponsored by the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences. In 1769 and 1770 he traveled through Orenburg, Ufa, Viatka, and Perm’ provinces; his account of the journey describes the region’s natural features, ancient sites of fortified towns, customs, and the like. In 1771, Rychkov took part in an expedition to western and northern Kazakhstan.
