A condition affecting the inner ear caused by a thinning or loss of the temporal bone overlying the semicircular canal of the vestibular system, which may be due to trauma, neoplasia or, less commonly, congenital.Clinical findings
Autophony, dizziness, chronic vertigo, Tullio phenomenon, hyperacusis, conductive hearing loss, pulsatile tinnitus, brain fog, fatigue, headaches.
Diagnosis
High-definition CT, vestibular evoked myogenic potential (VEMP) test, videonystagmography, electrocochleography.
Management
Surgical resurfacing of temporal bone, or plugging of superior semicircular canal.
