Performance Improvement Action Plan

Performance Improvement Action Plan

A clearly delineated plan which is drawn up by a UK health and social service provider that is not meeting government standards in a particular area of care or service. Performance improvement action plans (PIAPs) are triggered by tools such as the Performance Assessment Framework via the star rating system (pre-2006) or annual health checks (post-2006). A PIAP will generally contain:
• Target/objective (the failed area);
• Risks or why the service believes it is not meeting the target;
• Remedial action taken or planned;
• Time frame for implementation;
• Status; and
• Outcome.
