port of the capital of Indonesia, Jakarta. It is located on the island of Java on Jakarta Bay, 13 km east of Jakarta. Railroads, highways, and a canal link it with the capital. One of the largest ports in Indonesia, Tanjung Priok handles up to one-half of the country’s imports and a substantial portion of the exports. It is important for coastwise transport, with a freight turnover of 8.4 million tons (1974). It also has ship-repair facilities.
