Severnaia Osetiia University

 

(full name, K. L. Khetagurov Severnaia Osetiia University) a university organized in 1969 in Ordzhonikidze out of the city’s pedagogical institute, established in 1920.

In 1975 the university included departments of physics and mathematics, chemistry and biology, history, philology, foreign languages, law, economics, and physical education. It has evening, correspondence, and preparatory divisions, a graduate school, 35 subdepartments, a zoological museum, and a library with about 500,000 holdings. During the academic year 1974–75 the university had an enrollment of 7,000 students and a teaching staff of 360, including 18 professors and doctors of sciences and more than 130 docents and candidates of sciences. It issues collections of scholarly works. Over the years the pedagogical institute and university have graduated some 20,000 specialists.
