Severo-Chuia

 

a mountain range of the Central Altai, in the area between the Chuia River and the Karagem and Chaga-nuzun rivers. The length of the range is approximately 120 km; elevations reach 4,173 m (Mount Maasheibash) in the Bish-Iirdu mountain group, where the present area of glaciation is more than 130 sq km. The range is composed of shales, sandstones, limestones, and metamorphic rocks. Deeply dissected relief predominates. On the slopes to 2,200–2,400 m is larch and cedar taiga; higher up there are alpine meadows and tundras.
