[TA] an often paired prevertebral sympathetic ganglion located at the origin of the superior mesenteric artery from the aorta. The neurons composing the ganglion send postsynaptic fibers to the portions of the small and large intestines supplied by the superior mesenteric artery. Either of the paired prevertebral autonomic sympathetic ganglia in the lower celiac plexus and adjacent to the superior mesenteric artery. It receives preganglionic sympathetic axons via the major splanchnic nerves. See also: ganglion
