Any of a number of over-the-counter (OTC) agents (e.g., BronzGlo, Darker Tan, Orobronze) which contain concentrated canthaxanthin, a beta-carotene-like substance that imparts a red-brown “tanned” tint to skin.
 
Toxicology
Canthaxanthin may evoke headaches, fatigue, weight loss, bruisability, allergic skin reactions, blurred nocturnal vision, hepatitis, and potentially fatal aplastic anaemia.
