Tropibasic Skull
Tropibasic Skull
a type of axial skull with a narrow base and close-set orbits. The space between the orbits is in the form of a septum, in back of which the brain is situated. A tropibasic skull is characteristic of most teleostomian fishes, reptiles (except snakes), and birds. Among fossil vertebrates, it is typical of cros-sopterygian fishes and many stegocephalian amphibians.
