Red Polish Cattle

 

a breed of dairy cattle, developed in Poland between the mid-19th and early 20th centuries by purposeful selection and breeding of local cattle and backcrossing with bulls of the Red Danish and Red Ostfriesland breeds. The coloration is varying shades of red, often with white markings on the abdomen. On pedigree farms the liveweight of bulls is 620–700 kg; of cows, 350–450 kg. The milk yield is 3,000-3,500 kg per year (the best producers, about 6,000 kg). The fat content of the milk is 3.8-3.9 percent. The dresssing percentage is 48–51 percent. The breed is raised principally in Poland. In the USSR, Red Polish cattle are raised in the Volynia, Ternopol’, and Rovno oblasts of the Ukrainian SSR.
